The consortium of the "Climate neutral Business in Ostwestfalen-Lippe (Climate bOWL)" project came together for the first time at a joint kick-off meeting on 6 May to herald the official start of the project. The Zukunftsmeile 2 research and innovation campus in Paderborn could not have been a more suitable location for the first project meeting: The innovative solutions to be developed in the project, such as an intelligent assistance system, are forward-looking for the transformation of the industrial sector towardsCO2-neutral production.
During the kick-off event, it became clear that both the scientists from Paderborn University and Bielefeld and the companies NTT DATA Business Solutions AG, GEA Westfalia Separator, Miele & Cie. KG and Phoenix Contact Smart Business GmbH are highly motivated and excited to tackle the challenges of achieving climate neutrality in an interdisciplinary manner. The resulting issues are being addressed by experts in energy efficiency and life cycle assessment (Department of Energy Systems Engineering), production engineering (Chair of Lightweight Automotive Design) and knowledge modelling and machine learning (Data Science Group) at Paderborn University, as well as the Cognitive Robotics Lab at Bielefeld University, which specialises in resource-efficient information processing. As a global IT service provider of digital transformation solutions, NTT DATA Business Solutions is available to implement the assistance system in the business processes. Phoenix Contact Smart Business GmbH is providing the necessary expertise to implement the appropriate data acquisition and monitoring system. The practice partners Miele and GEA will define requirements for the tracking and assistance system for their company sites and will be the subject of investigation for the development of measures.
In the second half of the kick-off, various groups came together. They first discussed the expectations and the hoped-for results, as well as the necessary interdisciplinary linking of the research domains and expertise of the project partners already described in order to manage the transformation process.
With the tailwind from the kick-off event, we are now looking forward to a successful collaboration and the next joint working meetings.
